Coronavirus pandemic silences spectators for 2019-20 season, which ends on Labor Day with Tour Championship
Eliminated: For the rest of the season on the PGA Tour, spectators, according to a coordinated response Monday by officials from many of the tournaments that remain on the revised 2019-20 schedule. The move was widely anticipated after a GolfChannel report over the weekend that said an announcement was forthcoming. Plus, no fans had been allowed in the previous five weeks since the Tour resumed play after a three-month suspension during the coronavirus pandemic. This week’s Memorial Tournament, which was to have reintroduced spectators, reversed course recently when infection rates started to spike again nationally. The 2019-20 season ends on Labor Day with the Tour Championship, which will be played Sept. 4-7 at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
