China bans nearly all sports for rest of year, report says

Other than trials for 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, all athletic events, including LPGA and PGA Tour tournaments, will not be held, Associated Press reports

Reported: By the Associated Press, that China has banned all sports events for the rest of the year except for trials for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, citing a desire to ban the import of the coronavirus that has swept across the world, the U.S.-based news agency said Thursday. That would mean that the Buick LPGA Shanghai on Oct. 15-18 and the PGA Tour's WGC HSBC Champions two weeks later would not be played. The order by the General Administration of Sports affects 10 professional tennis tournaments. The GAS cited “science and order” in issuing its decree.
