PGA cancels its Professional Championship

With national championship for club professionals scrapped, PGA Championship will take top 20 from PGA’s player-of-the-year list

Canceled: By the PGA of America, the PGA Professional Championship, the association’s national event for club pros, the PGA announced in a news release, citing complications from the coronavirus pandemic. The tournament, which was scheduled for July 19-22 at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas, already had been rescheduled from late April because of COVID-19. Among the highlights of the annual event, the top 20 finishers earn spots in the PGA Championship, which is set for Aug. 6-9 at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. Instead, the PGA will award those 20 spots based on its 2019 PGA player-of-the-year list.
