LPGA calls off CP Women’s Open

Canadian event succumbs to travel and border restrictions amid coronavirus pandemic, tour says

Canceled: By the LPGA, the CP Women’s Open, because of travel and border restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic, the organization announced Tuesday in a news release. The event had been scheduled for Sept. 3-6 at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver, British Columbia. “Given the restrictions faced, there was simply nothing else that could be done that would have enabled us to run the event in 2020,” LPGA commissioner Mike Whan said in a statement. The 2021 edition of the tournament has been set for Aug. 26-29 at Shaughnessy. The LPGA is scheduled to return to competition on July 31 with the LPGA Drive On Championship, the first of two consecutive events in the Toledo, Ohio, area. The women’s tour has 18 events remaining on its revised 2020 schedule. Only four tournaments have been played this year on the LPGA, and none since Feb. 16.
