World No. 1, whose streak of top-5 finishes on PGA Tour ended at 6 last week, will pair with Rickie Fowler and defending champion C.T. Pan this week at Harbour Town
Rory McIlroy, the top-ranked player in the world, will be looking to regain his momentum in a season without equal when the PGA Tour visits the South Carolina Lowcountry this week.
McIlroy, who ended a streak of six consecutive top-5 finishes on the PGA Tour with a T-32 result in the Tour’s return from a three-month suspension of play last week at Colonial, will be paired with American Rickie Fowler and Taiwan’s C.T. Pan, the defending champion. Play begins Thursday at the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The PGA Tour announced four featured groupings ahead of the release of tee times for the entire field Tuesday.
McIlroy will be making his first start at the RBC Heritage, which usually follows the Masters in mid-April but was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic, since 2009. He was listed Monday as the betting favorite.
The other featured groups:
· Daniel Berger, who won last week at Colonial, will play with fellow Americans Brooks Koepka, who will be making his RBC Heritage debut, and Patrick Reed, who won earlier this year at the WGC Mexico.
· Spain’s Jon Rahm, who is No. 2 in the world and has four top-10s in six starts this season, will make his Harbour Town debut. England’s Justin Rose, who tied for third last week at Colonial, will play the RBC Heritage for the first time since 2008, and American Justin Thomas, a two-time winner this season, will join Rahm.
· Dustin Johnson, a South Carolina native and 20-time Tour winner, will pair with Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama and American Gary Woodland, the reigning U.S. Open champion who finished ninth last week.
