2020 Colonial: Total purse and prize money

The breakdown in earnings this week for the PGA Tour's Charles Schwab Challenge

Last year at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, Kevin Na pocketed $1.314 million from the $7.3 million purse for his four-stroke victory in the PGA Tour's Charles Schwab Challenge.

This week, when the PGA Tour returns to competition from a three-month suspension because of the coronavirus pandemic, the payoff at Colonial will be worth a few more bucks and infinitely more attention. The purse has been bumped by $200,000, to $7.5 million, with $1.35 million for the victor. But the winner also will take home a bonus in the form of major championship-like attention from the sports world, which has been starved for live action beyond poker and cornhole competitions.

Colonial, aka Hogan's Alley, typically hosts the PGA Tour in May. This year's event, like so many other tournaments, was reset as part of the Tour's revised schedule. In 1946, when Colonial made its debut on the PGA Tour, winner Ben Hogan pocketed $3,000 from a $15,000 purse for the first of what would be five victories in his hometown event. The total prize fund from that inaugural event would rate behind the last paid spot this year in dollars unadjusted for inflation.

Total prize fund: $7,500,000
