U.S. Ryder Cup team adds 2 assistants

Zach Johnson and Davis Love III will join Jim Furyk in assisting captain Steve Stricker in September at Whistling Straits to help the Americans try to end the Europeans' recent dominance

Appointed: By U.S. Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker, two more assistant captains for this fall’s matches, the PGA of America announced Monday. Stricker named Zach Johnson and Davis Love III to the American staff for the Sept. 25-27 event at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis. Last year, when Stricker was appointed by the PGA as captain for the Ryder Cup in his native Wisconsin, he immediately named Jim Furyk to the U.S. staff. Stricker is expected to round out his staff with two more assistants. Johnson, 44, has played in five Ryder Cups and served as an assistant to Love in 2018 in France. Love, 56, a two-time U.S. captain, played in six Ryder Cups and was an assistant captain in two other matches. The U.S. leads the biennial series, 26-14-2, but Europe has won three of the past four matches, including a seven-point victory in 2018, and nine of the past 12.
