Unlike the canceled British Open, the senior edition might be played later this year, officials say
Postponed: By the R&A, the Senior British Open, officials announced Tuesday, citing the coronavirus pandemic. The tournament had been scheduled for July 23-26 at Sunningdale (England) Golf Club. The British Open, which was scheduled to be played one week earlier at Royal St. George’s in Sandwich, England, was canceled last week. However, the R&A is holding out hope that the Senior British Open might be played later this year. Among other major championships on the 50-and-older tour, the U.S. Senior Open and the Senior PGA Championship have been canceled, and the Regions Tradition was moved from early May to late September. The Senior Players remains scheduled for July 9-12. Germany’s Bernhard Langer, a four-time winner of the Senior British Open, is the defending champion.
