Student Tour Series Final and Girls’ U16 Amateur fall victim to coronavirus pandemic, but R&A remains committed to British Open, Women’s British Open as scheduled
Canceled: By the R&A, two of its international amateur events that were scheduled for April, the U.K.-based governing body announced Thursday, citing the ongoing effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The R&A Student Tour Series Final, which was to have been held at St. Andrews in Scotland, and the R&A Girls’ U16 Amateur Championship, which was slated for Fulford Golf Club in Heslington, England, will not be played. The R&A added that it is taking a comprehensive review of its plans for its signature event, the British Open, as well as the Women’s British Open this summer, but is “proceeding as planned.” The British Open is scheduled to be played July 16-19 at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, England. The Women’s British Open is set for Aug. 20-23 at Royal Troon in Scotland. The first two major championships of the men’s season, the Masters and the PGA, already have been postponed because of coronavirus, along with numerous tournaments across virtually all of professional and amateur golf. The LPGA has lost its first major, the ANA Inspiration, to the pandemic.
