The Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship, which was scheduled opposite the WGC Match Play, becomes the 1st tournament casualty to the coronavirus pandemic
Postponed: Because of travel restrictions imposed Wednesday night by President Donald Trump, the PGA Tour put the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship on hold Thursday. The tournament was scheduled to be played in the Dominican Republic on March 26-29, opposite the WGC Match Play, which is still scheduled. A new date was not announced for the Dominican event. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan made the announcement in a news release in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The Dominican tournament is the first PGA Tour event to be scrapped because of the respiratory ailment. Monahan said that this week’s Players Championship, plus the next three events – Valspar Championship, WGC Match Play and Valero Texas Open – will be played but without fans and with only essential personnel on the grounds. The Masters Tournament, which is scheduled for April 9-12 and run by Augusta National Golf Club, has yet to announce any potential changes.
