Asian Tour postpones Royal’s Cup, citing advice of health officials in Thailand, but does not announce a new date
Postponed: The Royal’s Cup 2020, which had been scheduled for next week in Thailand, because of concerns about the coronavirus outbreak, the Asian Tour announced. A new date was not scheduled for the inaugural event, which was to have been played March 12-15 at Grand Prix Golf Club in Kanchanaburi. In a news release, Cho Minn Thant, commissioner and chief executive officer of the Asian Tour, cited “the advice of the health authorities of Thailand” in delaying the tournament, adding: “The current situation is now beyond our control.” The Royal’s Cup joins a growing list of golf events that have been affected by coronavirus, known as covid-19, notably: three LPGA events in Asia canceled, two European events in April postponed, one event on the Japan LPGA tour having banned spectators and the PGA Tour delaying the start of its developmental China Series.
