Van Sickle, Kaufmann win writing awards

The Morning Read contributors were honored in the recent Golf Writers Association of America contest

Honored: Two contributors to Morning Read were recognized in the Golf Writers Association of America’s annual writing contest, the GWAA announced Feb. 27. Gary Van Sickle was recognized with a second-place award in the “daily columns” category for his commentary “What if Tiger wins today? Just imagine,” which was published on April 14, 2019, the morning of the final round of the Masters. As we all know, Woods did, in fact, win his fifth green jacket that day, signaling that his comeback from injury and an assortment of self-inflicted wounds was complete. Also in the “daily columns” category, Martin Kaufmann received an honorable mention for his commentary “Augusta event won’t do much for women,” which was published in the March 27 issue of Morning Read, ahead of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. The GWAA will honor its award winners April 8 at the writers’ annual dinner during Masters week in Augusta, Ga.
