Approved: By the San Diego City Council, $15 million for improvements to the city’s municipal golf facilities, including Torrey Pines’ South Course, site of the 2021 U.S. Open, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Work also will be done to Torrey Pines’ North Course, Balboa Municipal’s 27-hole facility and Mission Bay, an executive course. The courses will remain open during the work, which will focus on irrigation, drainage, cart paths, bunkers and trees. Torrey Pines, the annual host to the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open, played host to the 2008 U.S. Open, which Tiger Woods won in a 19-hole Monday playoff against Rocco Mediate.
