Tournament is one of many golf events in Asia to have been affected by the widening coronavirus outbreak in China
Rescheduled: The Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific tournament, which had been postponed this month because of growing concerns about the worldwide spread of coronavirus, will be played Oct. 7-10 at Siam Country Club in Pattaya, Thailand, the R&A announced. Because of the delay, the 2020 and 2021 WAAP champions will receive invitations to the 2021 Women’s British Open. The WAAP is part of a long list of golf tournaments in Asia that have been adversely affected by the coronavirus outbreak, which has killed more than 2,600 and infected nearly 80,000, most near the epicenter of Wuhan, China. The LPGA scrapped its three-stop Asia Swing in Thailand, Singapore and China. The European Tour canceled two tournaments: the Maybank Championship in Malaysia and the Volvo China Open. Also, the PGA Tour delayed the start of its China Series, cutting four events from the start of the developmental tour’s schedule.
