Tiger Woods to be paired with Jon Rahm at Torrey Pines

An all-SoCal group of Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson and Xander Schauffele adds star power for the Farmers Insurance Open

Announced: By the PGA Tour on Monday, four featured pairings for this week’s Farmers Insurance Open, which begins Thursday at Torrey Pines in San Diego. Tiger Woods, whose eight titles at Torrey Pines include the 2008 U.S. Open, will be paired with Spain’s Jon Rahm, the 2017 winner at Torrey Pines and No. 3-ranked player in the world, and American Collin Morikawa. If Woods were to win, he would break a tie with Sam Snead and establish the all-time victory mark on Tour, at 83. The other featured groups: defending champion Justin Rose with two-time Torrey Pines winner Jason Day and Jordan Spieth, who will be making his 2020 debut; an all-Southern California pairing in Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson and Xander Schauffele; and reigning FedEx Cup champion Rory McIlroy, who would move to No. 1 in the world with a victory, with recent Sony Open in Hawaii winner Cameron Smith of Australia and American Brandt Snedeker, a two-time winner at Torrey Pines. Tee times are expected to be announced Wednesday.
