Announced: By the R&A, that the winner of this week’s Latin America Amateur will receive an exemption into the British Open, provided that he remains an amateur. The Latin America champion has won an exemption into the Masters since the amateur event’s debut in 2015 with support from Augusta (Ga.) National Golf Club, host site of the season’s first major championship, the R&A and U.S. Golf Association. The winner also receives exemptions into the U.S. Amateur, British Amateur and sectional qualifying for the U.S. Open. The sixth Latin America Amateur will be played Jan. 16-19 at El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The Masters will be held April 11-14, and the British Open, the world’s oldest major championship, dating to 1860, will be played July 16-19 at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, England.
