Tiger Woods to start 2020 at Torrey Pines

Site of Farmers Insurance Open has been scene of 8 of Woods’ 82 PGA Tour victories

Committed: Tiger Woods, who needs one victory to become the all-time winningest player in PGA Tour history, will renew his quest at a place where he has enjoyed his most professional success.

Woods will make his first start of the new year at the Farmers Insurance Open on Jan. 23-26 at Torrey Pines in San Diego. Woods, 44, won seven regular-season stops at the San Diego municipal course plus the 2008 U.S. Open. He stands tied with the late Sam Snead atop the all-time victory list, with 82.

At No. 7 in the Official World Golf Ranking, Woods will be one of 16 of the top 50 players in the world who already have committed to play the second of five stops on the Tour’s annual West Coast Swing.

He also will play three weeks later at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The tournament benefits his TGR Foundation.

Woods, the reigning Masters champion, won the inaugural Zozo Championship in Japan in the fall. He has not competed since he led the winning Americans as a player/captain in the Presidents Cup last month in Australia. Woods went 3-0-0, the only undefeated American, as the U.S. rallied from two points down entering Sunday’s singles to win, 16-14.
