Byron Nelson Award winner lands spot in PGA Tour event

The AT&T Byron Nelson extends an exemption to promote its namesake’s college award

Reserved: For the Byron Nelson Award winner, a spot in the PGA Tour’s AT&T Byron Nelson tournament, according to a report in The Dallas Morning News, which cited an announcement by the Salesmanship Club of Dallas. The Nelson Award winner honors the outstanding graduating men’s college golfer for his career accomplishment in the sport, academics and his community. This year’s winner, Ryan Lumsden of Northwestern, will be invited to play in the 2020 AT&T Byron Nelson, which is scheduled for May 7-10 at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas. Nelson, who died in 2006, won 52 PGA Tour events, including five major championships, before retiring at age 34 and ranks sixth in all-time victories. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
