In nod to forecast of 104 degrees in South Africa, tours slack off on dress policy for Alfred Dunhill Championship
Permitted: Shorts in competition this week, the European and Sunshine tours announced Wednesday. The policy will be introduced at the co-sponsored Alfred Dunhill Championship, which begins Thursday at Leopard Creek Country Club in Malelane, South Africa. Excessive heat is forecast for the week, with temperatures expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit). In 2016, the European and Sunshine tours allowed players to wear shorts during all practice and pro-am rounds. A similar policy was adopted by the PGA Tour in 2019. However, until Thursday, the tours have not allowed shorts in competition. According to the European and Sunshine tours, the allowance was made only for this event.
