LPGA to play for record $75.1 million in 2020

Women’s tour releases 33-event schedule, which begins in January in Florida

Released: The LPGA’s 2020 schedule, which will feature 33 tournaments plus the biennial UL International Crown and a combined $75.1 million, the tour announced. That’s one more tournament than the women’s tour played this season and a bump of nearly $5 million to a record amount of prize money. The season begins with the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions on Jan. 16-19 at Four Seasons Golf & Sports Club in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., the first of two events in Florida. Then, the LPGA heads to Australia and Asia for five tournaments before returning to the U.S. The LPGA will play in 12 countries spanning four continents next year, concluding with a four-tournament Asia Swing in the fall before the season-ending Tour Championship in Naples, Fla. Last week, commissioner Mike Whan signed a contract extension (“Mike Whan signs ‘long-term’ extension with LPGA,” Nov. 19). Whan completed his 10th year as the tour’s chief.
