Scandinavian Mixed will match European men, women

Swedes Henrik Stenson, Annika Sorenstam to host new event

Announced: That men and women will compete against one another in a new tournament co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the Ladies European Tour. The Scandinavian Mixed will be played June 11-14 at Bro Hof Slott Golf Club in Stockholm, Sweden, and hosted by Swedes Henrik Stenson and Annika Sorenstam. Other details of the event, which will include 78 men and 78 women for 72 holes, were not disclosed in a news release Monday. Stenson intends to compete, but Sorenstam has been retired from competition in 2008 and said she will play only in the pro-am. The golfers will compete for one trophy, 1.5 million euros and world-ranking points for both tours. It will be the second mixed-gender event with ties to Europe’s main professional tours. In April, the Jordan Mixed Open featured players from Europe’s 50-and-older Staysure Tour, the developmental Challenge Tour and the LET. The Netherlands’ Daan Huizing, who plays on the Challenge Tour, won. The LET’s Meghan MacLaren finished second, two strokes back.
