St. Louis lands Champions Tour event

Norwood Hills to host tour's return after nearly 2 decades

Announced: By the Champions Tour, a four-year agreement to bring a tournament to St. Louis, beginning in 2020. The Ascension Charity Classic will be played Oct. 2-4 at Norwood Hills Country Club. The 50-and-older tour held the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Match Play Championship at Boone Valley Golf Club in nearby Augusta, Mo., from 1996 through 2001. Norwood Hills played host to the 1948 PGA Championship, won by Ben Hogan, and the PGA Tour’s Greater St. Louis Golf Classic in 1972-73.

Named: By the Korn Ferry Tour as its 2019 player of the year, American Scottie Scheffler, in a vote of his peers. Scheffler, 23, won twice on the developmental tour in earning the top spots on the season-long and KFT finals points lists. He earned fully exempt status on the PGA Tour for the 2019-20 season. He also was named the KFT’s rookie of the year. He has made three cuts in as many starts this season on the PGA Tour, including a tie for seventh at the season-opening A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.
