Mondays help keep PGA Tour dream alive

Would-be qualifiers take hard road to golf's big-time

Mondays on the PGA Tour might as well be titled "Murder, She Wrote,” after the old Angela Lansbury TV series. Pressure (“Mondays on PGA Tour mean birdies … or bye-bye,” Nov. 18).

Morning Read’s Gary Van Sickle and I are old enough to remember when around 50 or more Monday qualifiers made the actual tournament.

Yes, it’s hard to believe that there actually was a time when filling fields on the PGA Tour was a tough task. Obviously, the money was limited.

It’s not that long ago (2012) that Patrick Reed qualified six times on Mondays. T.J. Vogel did it eight times in 2018. It can be done, and it still will be a goal of many to keep dreamin'.
