This year’s World’s Largest Golf Outing (WLGO) – a national event on Monday, August 6 benefitting Fisher House Foundation – is less than one week away with player registration and charity donations in high gear. This annual charitable golf tournament conceived by Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of Billy Casper Golf, brings together players from across the country to "golf for good." Hosting courses and participating players are working hard to raise money for Fisher House Foundation to help reach the national goal of $1 million. So far, over 4,000 players have raised more than $180,000, including more than $30,000 raised by the top 10 teams.
“The gratitude for our courageous veterans continues to grow annually,” says Hill. “Participating in World’s Largest Golf Outing is a fun and important way to show support for those who sacrifice their lives to preserve our freedoms.”
This great event provides a fun and eventful opportunity to play golf and give back at the same time. WLGO values fundraising skills just as much as golfing ability, providing rewards for the highest fundraisers and tournament winners at every individual course. Players will compete in a four-person team scramble format throughout the day, including long drive challenges and hole-in-one competitions on all par-3 holes.
Additionally, there are a series of national prizes available for all WLGO participants. These include; a three-day trip to Champion’s Retreat Golf Club for the highest nationwide fundraising team, a tour of the Titleist facilities for one of the teams that raises at least $500, and a set of USA-themed Wilson Irons for the best WLGO related story submission. More information about this year’s prizes can be found here.
Over the past 7 years, the WLGO family has expanded to over 17,500 teams, raising nearly $4 million for those who deserve it most, military members and their families. Several national celebrities, including PGA Tour Legend Chi Chi Rodriguez and 42nd President Bill Clinton, have donated to WLGO in the past.
WLGO is more than just a great day of golf; it’s about coming together to make a difference through participation and team fundraising which is why we value fundraising ability just as much as golfing ability. Team Birddog from Jack Frost National Golf Club in Blaskeslee, PA is truly taking this message to heart. Last year they raised over $10,000 taking 3rd place in the fundraising competition. This year Team Birddog is motivated to take home 1st place after catapulting to the top of the leader board following donations totaling $18,200.
This year, 104 courses from Massachusetts to Hawaii will host the highly emotional and entertaining WLGO on August 5th-7th benefitting Fisher House Foundation. Registration is still open at all courses nationwide and they will be accepting players until the morning of the event, unless already at capacity.
Since 1990, Fisher House Foundation has provided a “home away from home” for families of patients receiving treatment at major military and VA medical centers. Its network of 76 comfort homes has provided more than 335,000 families with no-cost lodging, allowing them to be close to loved ones undergoing treatment and recovery. One $10 donation covers costs to house a family in a Fisher House for one night.
Donations to Fisher House Foundation can be accepted on the website https://www.worldslargestgolfouting.com/donate until Friday, August 10th.
