Russell Knox, who won last week’s Irish Open, stands 49th in the Official World Golf Ranking. Only three other Scotsmen rank among the top 200: Martin Laird (129), Scott Jamieson (178) and Richie Ramsay (183).
Number of multiple winners in the John Deere Classic since the tournament’s 1971 inception on the PGA Tour: Deane Beman (1971, 1972), D.A. Weibring (1979, 1991, 1995), Scott Hoch (1980, 1984), David Frost (1992, 1993), Steve Stricker (2009, 2010, 2011) and Jordan Spieth (2013, 2015). Stricker, a Wisconsin resident who played college golf at Illinois, is entered in this week’s JDC at Silvis, Ill. (tee times).
Number of Americans entered in the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open this week at Gullane (Scotland) Golf Club. Foremost among them, Rickie Fowler, who is No. 7 in the Official World Golf Ranking and the 2015 Scottish Open winner, will be joined by No. 13 Patrick Reed, the reigning Masters champion, and No. 20 Phil Mickelson, who won the 2013 Scottish Open one week before claiming the British Open title. The other Americans, in order of their OWGR positions: Matt Kuchar, Charley Hoffman, Peter Uihlein, Luke List, Kevin Chappell, Julian Suri, David Lipsky, Chase Koepka and Daniel Im (tee times).
