The position in the Official World Golf Ranking of Justin Thomas, according to computations after Sunday’s conclusion of the Players Championship. Thomas, 25, the reigning PGA champion, supplanted Dustin Johnson, who has won eight times in the past 24 months, dating to his 2016 U.S. Open victory. Thomas tied for 11th in the Players, one stroke ahead of Johnson, who tied for 17th (scores). Thomas also is No. 1 in the PGA Tour’s season standings. Johnson held the top spot in the OWGR for 64 weeks. Thomas is the 21st player to be ranked No. 1 since the OWGR debuted in 1986 (ranking).

Score on the first playoff hole, a birdie, for Joakim Lagergren, who defeated Mike Lorenzo-Vera to win the European Tour’s Rocco Forte Sicilian Open. Lagergren, 26, of Sweden, had tied Lorenzo-Vera, 33, of France, at 16-under 268 at Verdura Golf Club as each sought his first tour victory (scores).

Number of career victories on the Web.com Tour for Stephan Jaeger, who won the Knoxville Open. Jaeger, 28, of Munich, Germany, a rookie on the PGA Tour this season, did not qualify for the Players Championship, so he teed it up in Knoxville, about a 90-minute drive from where he attended college at Tennessee-Chattanooga. Jaeger shot a final-round 7-under 64 at Fox Den Country Club for a 16-under 269 and three-stroke victory over South Korea’s Sungjae Im (68), who leads the tour’s money list. American Wyndham Clark (65) placed third at 12-under 272 (scores).

Number of victories on the Symetra Tour, a record for the LPGA’s developmental tour, for American Vicky Hurst, who won the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic. With her mom, Koko, on the bag on Mother’s Day, Hurst, 27, shot a final-round 5-under 67 at the Links at Stoney Point in Greenwood, S.C., for a one-stroke victory. Hurst has played the LPGA for most of the past 10 seasons (scores).

Number of combined men’s and women’s PGA Minority Collegiate Championship titles for Bethune-Cookman University, which swept the 32nd annual event. BCU, of Daytona Beach, Fla., won its 15th consecutive women’s title – and record seventh in a row – and added its 10th men’s title – and third in a row – at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. (scores).

Number of years since Americans had held golf’s four major championships and the Players title at the same time. With Webb Simpson’s victory in the Players, the U.S. has won the most recent Masters (Patrick Reed), U.S. Open (Brooks Koepka), British Open (Jordan Spieth) and PGA Championship (Justin Thomas) titles. That hasn’t happened since 2000-01, when Tiger Woods held all five titles after having won the 2001 Players.

Number of starts since American Webb Simpson, who cruised to a four-stroke victory in the Players Championship, had won on the PGA Tour. Simpson, 32, coasted with a final-round 73 at TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course for an 18-under 270 total and four-stroke victory, his fifth on Tour. Simpson, the 2012 U.S. Open champion, hadn’t won since the 2013 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Americans Jimmy Walker (67) and Xander Schauffele (67) and South African Charl Schwartzel (67) shared second at 14-under 274 (scores).
